Wanted: Winter Self Care Routine
While official winter is still a week or so away, winter weather, winter blues and winter skin are here already.
Temperatures have dropped. Sunlight is decreasing. Skin is drying. And there is no shame in your game if all you want to do is put on a big comfy hoodie, slip under the covers with a warm drink and watch a terrible movie.
But eventually, you will emerge, and when you do, you will still have to face winter and all it brings.
So let us help you make it all it can be.
Makeup as Self Care
Winter can be depressing and stressful. And now with the world canceled, these stresses can be amplified. If you do not have a self-care routine, now is a great time to get one.
Gone are the days when women simply apply makeup because the world requires it or because men expect it. Today’s woman applies (or does not apply) makeup because it makes her feel good. Especially now when we are all home, fancying up ourselves can feel good even if it is for no reason. If you are one of those women who still put on your lashes, pick the perfect shade of lipstick and do your hair, you have figured out how makeup routines can be self-care.
Regardless of how elaborate your routine is, it is a few minutes to yourself. A few minutes where you take time to self assess, to check your mood and make a decision to make yourself happy. How many times a day can you say you actually get to do that.
If you do not have a makeup routine, but this sounds like heaven to you, set your intentions. Take time to do you!
Makeup Trends of 2021
Lips, eyes and cheeks! Thank you 2021 for starting off by making things simple for us!
Don’t look into my eyes; look AT them!
This winter, vibrant shimmering eyes are all the rage.
Nothing screams “LET’S PARTY” like gold-hued eyelids. And, listen, this isn’t just for New Year’s Eve. This is for that terrible 4:30 pm meeting someone scheduled for a Thursday afternoon or for that flu shot appointment you have been putting off. Gold eyelids make it all better.
How about a shocking silver for your peepers. Untraditional and delicious. Try silver lids or trade your black wing for a silver one.
We have had purple lids. And yellow lids. Now is time for blue. It’s electrifying!
You can have all the fun you want with your colors and techniques, but if your skin is cracking, what’s the point?
Whether you already have a routine or if you have to get one, moisturizer better must be part of it. The dry winter air dries our skin. It can be uncomfortable. It can be ugly. Using moisturizers, serums and facial scrubs can help you defeat dried-out skin.
For those of you who already love winter (seriously, who are you?), enjoy!
For those of you (like me!) who would rather wait for summer from under a blanket, let us emerge, stare into that mirror and turn our winter skin into something to rave about!
