Beauty Sleep is No Joke
It seems more and more people are valued for their productivity. The more we run ourselves into the ground, the better citizens we are.
There is a lot to challenge here, especially since Eunre is a company that believes in the natural beauty inside each woman. But we will leave anything political and social aside, and say this: get enough sleep; it is the best anti-aging product.
We will start with the basics
Get 7-9 hours of sleep per night
During that time your body is regenerating and repairing cells
If you are getting less than 6, it may be affecting your appearance. But do not despair. Adding an extra hour or two can have immediate effects. And keep that up for 2-3 weeks, the effects on your skin will be noticeable.
Here are some lesser-known facts about sleep.
Less than 5 hours of sleep per night regularly can lead to twice as many fines lines than if you had gotten 7 hours of sleep regularly.
Less sleep makes skin drier, which makes fine lines more visible. It is an ugly cycle.
More sleep= rosier cheeks. While you sleep, blood is pumped to the skin.
Do we even need to say it? Dark circles under your eyes. This is due to decreased blood flow caused by lack of sleep.
That increased blood flow during sleeping hours also enriches your hair. Not getting enough sleep, can result in brittle and damaged hair.
Oh, if brittle hair isn’t enough, then consider baldness. Not enough sleep causes stress on your body which raises the cortisol levels which can cause baldness. BALDNESS!
Lack of sleep causes the corners of our mouths to drop, so it looks like you are frowning. Grumpy is not cute.
And here is the irony of it all. Often we miss sleep because we are trying to be over-productive. But when we do not have our 7-9 hours of sleep, we are less productive. The moral of the story is sleep more, work smarter, not more and look hotter!
If your lack of sleep is not due to running around, but rather an inability to fall asleep, here are some tips.
Adopt a regular sleep schedule. Go to bed and wake up at the same time each night. This will train your body and get a good rhythm going.
Avoid alcohol and caffeine late in the day. Caffeine may be obvious, but wine? Doesn’t that help us fall asleep? Yes, but it can interfere with good quality sleep.
Put down your phone. The blue light that comes from electronics (TVs too) interferes with our ability to fall asleep. Experts say to avoid them for an hour before bed. Go old school with a book or magazine!
Work on earlier in the day. Exercise is stimulating, so if you are having trouble sleeping and you exercise in the evening, consider moving it to earlier in the day.
Create a room that is cool, dark and quiet.
Beauty sleep is no joke. It is the first step in bringing out your natural beauty!
If you feel that you are doing all of these things and still you are not able to get enough sleep, check with your doctor to be sure there is no underlying issue. Women approaching menopause may also have trouble sleeping due to the onset of hot flashes, sleep apnea and other mental health issues caused by hormone shifts.
